Serum cortisol levels were assayed during the day and in the some suppressed and stimulated states in 32 healthy Koreans with cortisol radioimmunoassay kit of Daiichi,_Laboratory, Japan, during 1976 to 1977. Results are as follows:
1. 08 : 00 value of serum cortisol in 32 healthy Koreans was 16.11±7.2 . (mean+ standard . deviation) ?g/dl, and varied between 4.4 to 34.5?g/dl.
2. Diurnal variation of serum cortisol were studied at 30 min. interval in 2 healthy students and revealed the peak values between 04 : 00 to 10 : 00 with 13 apparent episodes of secretions throughout the day. 15 min. interval studies in 2 others for 2 to 3 hours revealed also the episodic secretory patterns, which is not so different from 30 min. ones.
3. 6 out of 8 persons given single dose overnight dexamethasone (l mg at 24 : 00) showed the serum cortisol level below 4 ?g/dl at next 08 : 00 During low dose dexamethasone. test all 4 persons showed suppressed serum cortisol levels, below 4,ug/dl at 48 hours.
4. Short ACTH stimulation test, using 0.25 mg of Cotrosyn® (Synthetic 1?24 ACTH), made the mean serum cortisol level rise about double fold of 8 : 00 value, at 30 min. later the I.M. injection, and this value was not different from 60 min. one.
